Card Layout
Cards represent the singular piece of information with the VIA system. Cards can link to other card types; however, you will only find cards of the same type defined within each of the boards. For example:
The card above is an order type card. It resides in a board with other order type cards. Other cards can interact with this card such as the Jim Smith driver card, the 2017 Tractor card and the Toledo Museum of Art customer card. Each of these cards resides on a different board in the system but they can all link to an order board. The view above is called a mini card view. These mini cards can be see on any board type when you are looking at the board in list view. Different card types will show different information on their card face. For example, a driver card can show the driver’s name, his last location and a picture of the driver (if there is one) it can also link to any tractors that the driver has assigned to him:
Order and Segment type cards show a substantial amount of useful information to help dispatchers and customers see relevant information quickly.
From the card above I can see a wealth of useful information, without having to open the order.
The order number is TRANZ091802
The order is going from Chicago to Toledo
There is an attachment on the card (the paperclip icon)
Someone has started a conversation on the order (the speech bubble icon)
The order is in a status of New
The order has 2 stops and 1 of them is complete
The next even (pickup or delivery) that should happen on this order should take place on 8/4/2023 at 15:37
Regardless of the type of card you are looking at, when you click on the card to open it, all cards share similar layouts. Let’s look at a driver card, and a order card side by side to see the similarities and differences:
While the bottom of each of the cards shows different details, the top part of all cards in VIA are very similar.
Title and Location - The top left of all cards show the title of the card (information you can see in the mini card view) and the list location of the card in your board.
Card Menu and Action Menu - The menu items appear on the top right side of all cards. The actions and menu items may differ depending on the type of card you are looking at, but the location of these menu items is universal. If your card can be seen in different views (for example in a map view) there will be a view changing icon in this part of the card as well.
Card Description and Tasks - On the left side of the card you can find the card description. Cards are not required to have a card description; however, you can add one here by clicking on the word card description and start typing. On the right side of this section you have the ability to add tasks to the card. You can add tasks to any card; however, in some types of cards (orders and segments for example) you can also add tasks within the detail section of the card.
Card Tab Details - All cards separate the details at the bottom of the card within different tabs. This tab section, and the details below, are where the cards tend to be dramatically different. Each tab hold different details such as stops and freight details for orders and personal information and experience for drivers. If you have any custom defined tabs then they will also show in this section of the card.
