This guide will go over how to use the global search feature in VIA. This search bar, located at the top of the VIA screen, will allow you to search through the entire system. This global search is different from filtering which is another feature to help you find information in the VIA system as it applies your search to the entire system; whereas the filter searching option will only apply to the board that you have open. For more information on filtering, click Here

There are Three sections to the search screen

  1. The first section is where you enter in the search criteria
  2. This Determines the type of card you want to search
  3. You can select specific fields within you cards if you choose a specific card type from section 2

Basic Use

The quickest and easiest way to search the system is to simply enter in the information you want to search for in the field on the left of the search bar. This basic search will look at card titles that have your search data included. This is a 'contains' search, so as long as your search criteria appears in any part of the title you will be able to see your results. A card title appears in the mini card and at the top of a card when you open it.

Once you have entered your search criteria, press the search button on the right side of the search bar to run your search. The search results will appear listed below the search bar.

Once you have your list of results, clicking on one of the results will open the board and open the card that matches. Your search will disappear but the search criteria will remain. You can run the search again by pressing the magnifying glass again.

Advanced Use

If you are looking to search for any data, other than the card title, you can use the additional fields in the search bar to run an advanced search. We will look at some of those options now. To search for a specific card type, select the card type from the middle drop down list in the search bar. NOTE: all of the types of boards will appear here regardless of if you have any boards of that type. Once you select the card type you can select the field  from the card type in the third column. The list of options in this third drop down section will change depending on the type of board you choose. For example, if you select the Card Type of Driver then the third drop down field will change to show fields available in the driver cards. See below for examples:
