It is possible to use the VIA system to determine if your load will be late, on time or at risk from within the VIA system using the if estimated time of arrival (ETA) calculations. In this page, we will discuss how the ETA works and how it appears within the VIA system.

NOTE: The ETA functionality within VIA is a paid feature. Please reach out to sales@tranztec.com , or your specific account manager for more information.

How ETA is Calculated on Orders and Segments within the VIA System

The ETA process for a load is triggered once the first GPS position for the load is logged or the first stop is arrived. Once that happens the ETA to the next stop and final stop of the Load are calculated. As new positions occur the ETA will be updated on a cycle to reflect new times. Once a stop on a load has been arrived or completed, the system will update the ETA even if no new position is logged because the system will assume the truck is at the stop location.

Stops in Via Extend have a field called “Estimated Duration”. This field represents how long a truck is expected to spend at a stop and will be taken into account when calculating ETA.

How ETA and ETA Status Appear VIA Extend

The ETA shows up two places within the UI:

  • Order/Segment Stops: When an Order/Segment card is open the ETA information will be displayed on the next stop and on the final stop of the load. This will include the ETA datetime and ETA Status. The stop name and ETA status will be colors based on the status.

  • Order/Segment Minicard: The Order/Segment minicard visible on lists will display the ETA Status of the last stop. The ETA status will be colored based on the status.

In the mini card that appears on the list, you will see the status for the last stop in the segment or order. In the example above, based on the last position report, the driver will arrive at the last stop on the load early.

There are a few options that you will see when you see the final stop status on the mini card:

If the last stop on the load will arrive prior to the scheduled arrival time the status will be early. Based on the last position report received.

If the driver will be late to the last stop on the load, the icon on the mini card will show as late

If the driver will be on time to his last stop, the ETA status will show as on time.

If the driver ‘may’ be late you will get an at risk icon on the card.

ETA Within the Stop Details of the Card

When you open the card and look at the stops, you will see further information on the ETA for the load. If your load is a truckload load with only two stops, then you will see the ETA for both the stops. If however; your load has multiple stops you will only see the ETA on the next stop and the final stop.

The ETA status will show for the stops in addition to the estimated date and time that the driver will arrive at the stop.

These ETA status updates will update when new position reports are submitted, or when the scheduled arrival/departure dates are changed.
