This guide will go over how to use the global search feature in VIA. This search bar, located on the top right section of the VIA screen, will allow you to search through the entire system. This global search is different from filtering which is another feature to help you find information in the VIA system as it applies your search to the entire system; whereas the filter searching option will only apply to the board that you have open. For more information on filtering, click Here

The global search screen will look like this on your screen.

When you click on the search field, the search screen will appear giving you some options for searching and viewing your search results.

The section highlighted in red will allow you to narrow down your search criteria. This section contains three fields. The first field will allow you to specify which product in the in Tranztec's suite of products you want to search through. For this documentation, we will leave this as VIA.  The second dropdown box (showing as all in the screen shot above) will display a list of all the types of data (boards) that VIA has to offer that you can search through. Please note that this dropdown will include all board types regardless of if you are using them or not in your company. Changing the middle card type field will change the third dropdown in the search boxes (showing Title in the screen shot above) which is the field name search field. When you first open the search this will default to Title as all the cards in the system will have titles and so this field is a universal search field. If you change the middle (card type) dropdown field. The third field selector field will also change. For example:  If we change the Middle field to Invoice then the options in the third field will change to reflect only Invoice Type fields:

If we change the middle field to Driver, then the third field will update to only show fields that are available within a driver's card:

You can use the icons on the right side of the search box to control how many rows show up in your results section. You can choose to show:

Basic Use

The quickest and easiest way to search the system is to simply enter in the information you want to search for in the field on the left of the search bar. This basic search will look at card titles that have your search data included. This is a 'contains' search, so as long as your search criteria appears in any part of the title you will be able to see your results. A card title appears in the mini card and at the top of a card when you open it.

Once As you have entered type your search criteriainto the bar, press the search button on the right side of the search bar to run your search. The search results will appear listed below the search bar.Image Removedthe results will automatically filter down to match your criteria:

Once you have your list of results, clicking on one of the results will open the board and open the card that matches. Your search will disappear but the search criteria will remain. You can run the search again by pressing the magnifying glass again.

Advanced Use

If you are looking to search for any data, other than the card title, you can use the additional fields in the search bar to run an advanced search. We will look at some of those options now. To search for a specific card type, select the card type from the middle drop down list in the search bar. NOTE: all of the types of boards will appear here regardless of if you have any boards of that type. Once you select the card type you can select the field  from the card type in the third column. The list of options in this third drop down section will change depending on the type of board you choose. For example, if you select the Card Type of Driver then the third drop down field will change to show fields available in the driver cards.
